The closest desert to Marrakech is located in the Zagora region next to a vast palm grove. To get there, you have to cross the mountains to the other side of the Atlas. An itinerary filled with plenty of panoramic landscapes.
Day 1 - Marrakech - Ait Ben Haddou - Ouarzazate - Agdz - Zagora
Departure in the morning to Zagora city, located about 8 hours drive from Marrakech, crossing the High Atlas mountains and the Tizi N'Tichka pass, this one is considered among the highest peaks of this majestic mountain range, with 2.260m high. You make a stop in this pass to admire the landscapes of the Atlas, then you continue to the Kasbah Ait Ben-Haddou, which we will visit, it is declared as an international heritage of humanity by UNESCO.
Continue the journey to Ouarzazate and Agdez, where you will enjoy a panoramic view of the Draa valley. Then, you will follow this valley until Tansikht, where you will be able to discover kasbahs and typical villages along the Draa valley until Zagora, then you continue to the bivouac installed in the Tizi Desert, at the end of the paved road, you replace the bus with camels to reach the bivouac. Dinner and overnight in the bivouac.
Day 2 - Zagora - Tamegroute - Nessrate Valley - Mhamid - Chegaga - Erglihoudi
After seeing a beautiful sunrise over the dunes, you will be back in your 4x4, and it will be the start of the Moroccan Saharian desert discovery and of course the famous Chegaga, which has the biggest dunes of Morocco, with more than 300m high. Then you will visit the Quran library and the small steets underground, before going to the village called Mhamid via one of the most beautiful parts. When you arrive at Mhamid, which is the last village before the Saharian immensity, you will go through a road with sand, famous because of the Paris-Dakar rally going there.
After arrival, you will enjoy your lunch. Then you will be able to walk in the big dunes or practice sand-boarding before coming back to your 4x4 to join the desert place where you will spend the night under the starry sky in authentic tents: Erg Lihoudi. The sunset won’t be missed, and you will admire the beautiful big Dunes of Lihoudi. On the night, around a fire, typical diner and traditional songs and music.
Day 3: Erg Lihoudi - Zagora - Kasbah Taourirte - Marrakech
Departure in the early morning to get to Zagora with a 4x4, and to join your minibus and driver to comeback to Marrakech via the Draa valley and the Taourirte Kasbah.
This tour is proposed with drivers speaking different languages (French or Spanish, or English), you can choose the desired language when confirming your reservation. To improve the content of this circuit, a guide is strongly recommended who will give you more explanations and information and will lead you to the different sites you will visit, except in the cinema studio, where the visits are made with a guide from the studio against a tip.
